The Ultimate Crossover:  

Chapter 3--Awakening  

"Nnnn...."  Eli groaned as his eyes fluttered open.  He was lying in a clearing in the middle of a huge forest.  "Where am I?"  *You're awake.*  Eli jumped.  He hadn't heard that voice in his ears; it was inside his head!  *I have healed your injuries; you should be able to move now.*  Eli rose to his feet, still a little shaky.  "Where are you?"  he said aloud.  *In front of you,* the voice replied, and Eli looked to see a shimmer of heat in the air.  "Who are you?"  Eli asked.  In reply, the shimmer of heat suddenly formed itself into a tall catlike creature with a white-furred body and a grey tail.  *I am called--Mewtwo,* the creature replied.  "I'm Eli," Eli replied, bowing.  "I thank you, Mewtwo, for saving my life."  *Actually, I only healed the scars you had on the surface.  For some reason, even though most people would have died from those burns, you were merely knocked out from them.  You are....an interesting human, to say the least.*  

"You seem pretty strong, Mewtwo.  I can feel your power from here."  *What do you mean?*  "It's this strange ability I have.  I can sense the energy of others.  I've had it since I was born."  *Hmmm....tell me, child, what other abilities do you possess?*  "You seem to ask a lot of questions, mister.  I'd like to know more about you."  Neither of them said anything for a while.  *My story is not a happy one.  You are too young for such matters.*  Suddenly a huge pink bubble floated into the clearing, and a pinkish catlike creature with a freakishly long tail emerged from it with a pop.  "Who's that?"  *My wife, Mew.*  The creature certainly seemed female, even though Eli didn't know much about girls yet.  *It is time I returned you to your home, boy.  Where is it?*  Eli didn't reply.  *Come on, you must have a home.*  "Not anymore--the burns on my skin came from the fire that burned down my house.  I don't have a home to go back to, now.  I don't even know the way there...."  

Suddenly, Mew began to speak to her husband in a language Eli didn't understand.  *Hmm....I don't know....*  There was a pause.  *Oh, all right.*  Turning back to Eli, Mewtwo continued, *My wife and I have decided that you can live in the forest with us.  At least for a while.*  "That's cool.  I needed someone to train me, anyhow."  *In that case....*  Suddenly Mewtwo conjured up a black energy ball crackling with electricity in his hands and shot it toward Eli.  "Ka-Me-Ha-Me-HAAAAA!!!!"  Eli shouted and shot a blue energy beam from his hands, blowing up the energy ball in mid-flight.  *I've never seen such power from a human!  Let's see how you handle this!  Psy Lightning!*  Lighting shot from Mewtwo's fingertips, but Eli ducked, flipped, and leaped out of the way of every single bolt.  "Now it's time I hit back!"  Eli muttered to himself, and leaped toward Mewtwo, his foot extended.  "DYNAMITE KICK!"  A blue sphere of energy suddenly shot up around Mewtwo, and Eli was blown back onto the ground.  He didn't get back up.  *Perhaps you were too hard on him.*  Mew spoke up.  *I'll heal him in a minute; besides, I wouldn't have used that much strength if I didn't know that he could have taken it.*  *What do you mean?*  *I read his mind, dear.  This boy has more power inside him than we could ever imagine.  He just doesn't know it yet.*

Weeks went by, and the strange training continued daily.  Every day, Eli got even stronger.  When he wasn't training, however, he was having fun in the forest, never venturing beyond the border.  He was beginning to make fast friends with the strange creatures in the forest.  They looked like some animals from his world, except much larger, with strange powers.  There were birds, snakes, and even plants that had strange abilities.  But all were family to him.  Slowly he was beginning to forget about the sadness of his parent's death.  He had found a new mother and father in Mewtwo and Mew.  Until one day, Mewtwo took him aside.  *My son, it is time for your training to begin in earnest.  Up to now, you have been limited by one thing that all humans have been:  gravity.  But now I will teach you the secret of flight.  I know now that I can trust you with the knowledge that I have.*  Mewtwo's eyes glowed blue with power, and he placed his hand on Eli's forehead.  A strange humming noise began to emit from him, and suddenly, Eli felt something inside his head relax.  Suddenly he noticed that his feet were not touching the ground.  *You are ready, my son.*  Eli looked up and rose high into the air, soaring far above the treetops.  He laughed as he felt the wind rush past his face.  He flew up higher, passing a flock of Spearow and causing them to squawk with surprise.  Today he had reached the next level.  

Meanwhile, Mewtwo watched Eli fly away, soaring into the sky.  The boy had become like a son to him.  He had never had a child of his own, until the day Eli showed up.  He was glad, and that was a feeling he didn't feel often.  Suddenly, he felt a presence behind him.  It was Mew.  She was breathing heavily, and sweat was beading on her pink fur.  *Dear,* she said gently.  *It's happened.*

Eli was flying high above the clouds when he heard a startled cry from his father.  Instantly he flew back to earth.  It actually felt strange to be back on solid ground again, but he landed and rushed to his father and mother's "nest" of sorts.  "What's wrong?"  *Nothing's wrong,* Mew replied, her eyes shining with tears.  *In fact, it's the opposite.  Eli--this is your new baby sister.*  Eli turned to see a big green egg sitting next to his mother's bed.  *An egg?*  *It's about to hatch,* Mewtwo explained.  *And that egg contains our child.  My son, you're going to have a new baby sister!*  Just then, the eggshell broke, and a small green creature sat up on the pieces of the broken shell.  Eli's heart melted like butter.  He scooped his baby sister up and hugged her.  "I finally have a baby sister of my very own!"  he cried happily.  Suddenly the green fairy-like creature broke away from his grip.  On tiny wings, she flitted gently in front of him like a tiny hummingbird.  "Celebi," Eli suddenly spoke up.  "That's what your name will be."  Celebi smiled and flitted over to her mom.  "Awww...."  Eli sighed.  He had never been this happy before.

Many months passed, and Celebi began to grow up.  Together, she and Eli were inseparable.  They flew around the forest together all the time, playing and laughing like infants.  But it was too good to last.  One day,  mysterious new creature walked into the forest. It was tall, black, and had a really hard black shell.  A strange letter or shape was emblazoned on the top, but Eli couldn't tell what it was.  Suddenly, the side of the creature opened, and many strange men in black outfits, followed by another man in a red suit and tie, stepped out of it.  "I know you're here." the man in the red suit murmured.  "Mewtwo!"
